Shop small & support our local villages this summer

Spring has officially arrived with us here in the Witterings and the village ‘buzz’ has returned! With pubs and restaurants back open for outside dining and our properties filling-up with holidaymakers, we’re very excited that the new season has begun!

It’s incredibly important for us to keep our local businesses alive and what better way to do that than with the help of our guests. If you’re keen to cook up a storm on your holidays, you’ll be pleased to know that you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to fresh supplies!

In the village of East Wittering you will find Horrocks and Munneries – two fantastic greengrocers selling wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables. For excellent fresh and cooked meat, you can visit the local butchers, AS Wallace in East Witt and Tessiers in West Witt. Something Fishy on East Witt highstreet sells fresh fish daily from it’s fishmonger shop and even offers home delivery Tuesday – Saturday if you’d like your fish delivered straight to your door.

For a more unique “fish” experience, you can take a stroll down to the bottom of Shore Road where you will find Bob in his “Fisherman’s Hut”. He is normally there between 11am and 4pm, but it depends on the available catch so don’t hold us to that (and if the waves are too good to miss – there is a strong possibility that he will be out surfing!). Bob’s fish is freshly caught, so get there early to snap up the best he has to offer!

Fancy a night off cooking? No problem – why not ask Doug from Food by Doug Gaunt to whip you up a feast to enjoy at home. His beautiful, seasonal, yet simple menus include dishes for all the family to devour – he’ll even bake you a loaf of bread if that’s all you’re after!

Whilst the main supermarkets in Chichester will deliver to your holiday property, we would absolutely love it if you could support our local independent businesses during your stay. From small cafes serving light bites to pubs serving up tasty grilled BBQ grub – our little village has a lot to offer!

Magaroo is a fantastic online platform that was launched during lockdown to help support the high street and local community. The service allows you to pre-order all your food and groceries, either for delivery or collection in advance of and during your holiday. No need to do the supermarket run or fight for a delivery slot – after all, you are on holiday! Magaroo works with loads of the local restaurants as well, so when you’re not in the mood for cooking, you can order in a takeaway of your fancy – check it out here (and don’t forget to register using your holiday-home address for delivery).

If you’re coming to stay with us this summer and would like more recommendations on where to eat out and our favourite take-aways, just get in touch! We love sharing our local knowledge with guests and can’t wait for you to enjoy all that Manhood Peninsula has to offer.
