Chichester

The city of Chichester is a rich cultural experience and dates back to the Roman times.  Historical evidence of the Roman settlement can be found all over the city, including some Roman baths, a city wall (which was replaced by a Georgian wall), an amphitheatre which is now a park and the old Roman road, State Street linking Chichester with London.  The Cathedral which has stood there for nine centuries is a must visit and if you enjoy theatre don’t leave without catching a performance at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

The city boasts some good shopping and great restaurants.  Purchases is a good local favourite and if you are heading just out of town, The Earl of March at East Lavant is excellent.   Why not book a table after a bracing walk in the South Downs or nearby Kingly Vale Nature Reserve (the views from the top are amazing).

The Goodwood Estate nearby is famed for its horse racing, motor sport and vintage car events, plus the historic Goodwood House itself. Annual highlights include the motor racing events Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival and the horseracing event Qatar Goodwood Festival, formerly known as Glorious Goodwood.  During the summer the estate runs a series of music concert evenings and a recent addition to the events calendar is one for the dog lovers…Goodwoof.
